A little more than seven years ago God opened a unique door of opportunity for others to share his love with many of the impoverished and marginally displaced people of Southwest Virginia. How did this look initially? In the beginning numerous groups of mission-minded people, that just happened to be Baptists, chose to come together & coordinate their efforts through what we now know as the Southwest Virginia Partnership Inc.
But quite often we are asked, “Just what is the Southwest Virginia Partnership?” Well let’s just say, at the Partnership we believe in keeping things simple. We exist “to advance the Kingdom of Christ by putting His love into action – one person, one family, one community at a time.” So our Partnership is exactly that, a joint effort between, but not limited to: individuals, businesses, business owners, civic groups, community organizations, churches across Virginia & beyond, & the Baptist General Association of Virginia (BGAV). Through this unique partnership we combine our talents, finances, and best efforts to touch hearts and change lives by focusing on meeting housing needs & sharing Christ as we engage in projects to enhance the lives of those living in Dickenson, Lee, Scott, Russell, & Wise counties of Southwest Virginia.
While our Partnership is housed in the town of Nickelsville, Virginia the building that provides housing known as “The Manor” is little more than a tool for our volunteers who come to engage in missions outreach. Currently we have two missionaries on site: Tony & Jan Johnson and they serve as a husband & wife team in a dual capacity by managing our facility but more importantly in coordinating & overseeing the 500 people per year who travel to our region to engage in: construction and service projects for the elderly, disabled, and less fortunate people of our area with a heavy emphasis on spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ. As these volunteers interact with the people of our region they experience many life-changing moments themselves and most return on an annual basis. As you can see, the mission of this partnership is far too important to shut down or fall by the wayside.
We are excited that the partnership is now duly incorporated and recognized as a nonprofit organization; however, what really excites us is the new realm of possibilities Southwest Virginia Partnership Inc. that lie before us. As such, we are working fervently to secure the future of this partnership that means so much to the people of our region.
We realize that it’s not possible for everyone to engage in the actual “hands on” work; however, our biggest hindrance is not the lack of volunteers but the finances needed for projects and operations. With this in mind – would you consider partnering with us by giving a gift that will extend a “hand-up” to the less fortunate? You can do this by choosing to partner with us on a weekly, monthly, quarterly, or annual basis. Each year we engage in approximately 40 projects and the average cost of a project is $1,500 (fifteen hundred dollars). We are seeing both individuals and groups adopt one or more projects per year. You might be surprised how easily this can happen. Consider this, for the price of two soft drinks a week a group of ten people can adopt an annual project. Or, you might want to consider a larger gift(s) that would enable us to retire our indebtedness? Or even a gift that would enable us to build a storage facility for materials? No gift is too small or too large. In fact, we believe each gift is an expression of God’s love and grace and because of this we offer numerous ways to give to this wonderful ministry.
Will you join us in these efforts that honor our Lord and touch countless lives with the love of Jesus Christ? If so, please consider sending a much needed donation to reach the people of Southwest Virginia with hope, love, and a fresh expression of God’s grace.
